The Way of the Ascetics
by T. Colliander
If there is a single book that should be read to gain an understanding
of Eastern Orthodox spirituality, this is it. Though small, simple and
meditative in its format, it packs an existential punch. Tito
Colliander, a layman, draws directly from many of the spiritual fathers
of the Eastern church, and clearly demonstrates a deep and personal
experience of the subject he describes. Better yet, he writes in a very
accessible and understandable manner, and each subject is treated in a
short chapter that serves admirably as a daily meditation, especially
during Great Lent.
