Description
This package principally takes the Advanced Listener back to the earlier roots of Russian liturgical chant development. Two recordings present the medieval chant forms that constituted the Russian chant development prior to Peter the Great's move to polyphony along western European lines. These include 17th century Greco-Russian chant and early Russian plainchant. Two others offer an experience of "Russian" liturgical music as expressed in the Slavonic tradition of Bulgaria. The first is a compilation of a variety of medieval chant, the second is from the Good Friday service of Holy Week in the Slavonic tradition. Includes Medieval Russian Chant, Early Russian Plainchant, Ancient Slavonic Chants, Good Friday-Bulgarian Orthodox Liturgy.
