Recorded by the Westminster Cathedral Choir directed by David Hill, this recording offers Victoria's Responsories for Tenebrae, part of his Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae, a collection of music for Holy Week. Notes, texts and translations.
By:
Fr. Jerome Weber
Since this replaces a great recording of the same music by the same choir made in 1959 and the music is sung liturgically every year at the cathedral, this disc is masterly. It was the last of five recordings of Victoria directred by Hill, all of them renowned for their fidelity to the composer. This beats out many competing versions.
