Description
Much of this disc is devoted to a narrative of the history of Gregorian chants. Selections from recordings issued on this label are inserted to illustrate certain points. The time limit frequently forces the narrative into oversimplification, and many statements should be qualified by the presentation of alternative theories. Books by Crocker, Hiley and McKinnon offer a more thorough presentation of these questions.
ReviewBy: Fr. Jerome Weber
The narrative first treats the history of chant, then explains each of the forms of the Mass (both proper and ordinary) and the Office. This disc might be an interesting introduction to a further study of the authors cited.
