Description
Segments of the Vigil on the Feast Day of St. George of Chozeba, recorded live at the St. George of Chozeba monastery situated on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho. This monastery is one of the Holy Land's oldest, founded in the 5th century. This live chant recording includes a Greek Byzantine choir from Cyprus and monks of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
ReviewBy: Benjamin Williams
This live recording of the Vigil service of the Great Martyr St. George is performed by a choir of monks from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The St, George of Chozeba Monastery sits on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho and is one of only seven to survive the Persian onslaught of the early 7th century. The vigil service begins with the stichera of Psalm 140 of vespers but like the other recordings in this series no track listing is provided. Though lively, the hymns of this recording lack the musical beauty of other recording in this series. Thus, this CD will be more highly sought for its historic significance than for its artistic qualities.
